If you have a Jazz Combo at your school this is a must read!

On Saturday, March 14, 2020, USF is hosting a spectacular music event. The renowned saxophonist Bill Evans who toured with Miles Davis and many other jazz legends and music superstars will be leading a jazz combo clinic in the afternoon and in the evening performing with the USF jazz combo.  Five to six regional high school/junior college jazz combos will be chosen and given the chance to perform a few songs.  Bill Evans, along with our USF jazz combo leader Jacob Slocum, USF drummer extraordinaire Adam Hill will give their thoughts on how to sharpen the combos’ performance.  The participants will hear Bill Evans demo and explain some of his marvelous approaches to improvisation, groove, practicing, listening, composition as well as life as an artist.  There will also be time for questions.  As a thank you, the high schools/junior colleges that brought their jazz combos here to participate would be given the opportunity to record in our USF recording studio at a later date.

At 7:30 on the 14th there will be a concert with Bill Evans and the USF combo featuring Bill Evans’ compositions and most likely original composition from the USF combo.  This is once in a lifetime event featuring one of the greatest living saxophonists here at USF.  This is event is still in the works, that is, tentative and is an expensive event.  If you know any interested donors interested in helping to make this happen give them our contact information.
